Career Spotlight Panels are back!

Hair and Make-up Department, 3 Dec

Hair and make-up aren’t just about making people look good on camera (although that is a highly-honed skill in and of itself) — they’re a key storytelling tool, helping to convey information about characters, setting and theme. And yet, hair and make-up skills are rarely covered on film/media syllabi. Our panel will include Hannah Wing, Head of Hair and Makeup at London Screen Academy and a hair, makeup and costume designer for film & TV.

Production Management Department, 10 Dec

Production management encompasses a wide variety of different roles and entry points into the screen industries. They look after the operational side of production, making sure projects run on time and on budget, with roles that could suit students who want to bring together both creative and project management and organisation skills. Workforce research from ScreenSkills (March 2025) revealed skills shortages in production management for high-end TV, including production secretary and line producer roles.

Resources

  • Unlocking choice: giving users more control over the content they see online

Ofcom’s new report considers how users engage with controls to manage the content they see online. It may be useful in preparing students for how to use content platforms safely, as well as preparing students for how their marketing/content will be viewed by others.

  • Social Media and The News

The Economist has created a free lesson plan to encourage students to consider how social media contributes to echo chambers and how this can affect the decisions they make.

  • Unwrapping The White Paper

FE Week is hosting a webinar on Monday 3rd November to discuss the new Government White Paper which introduces V Levels. Places to attend the live webinar are now full, but you can request a link to watch the webinar at a later date.
