Resources

  • All The Empty Rooms (2025, Netflix)

Netflix have just released this new documentary from Joshua Seftel and Steve Hartman which is a study of the childhood bedrooms left behind by victims of school shootings. The accompanying article explains Hartman’s disappointment with the lack of interest in the victims of these devastating crimes, which would be an important point when discussing factual filmmaking with students.

  • From Friends to Founders: Building Professional Structures in Startups, with David White

This concept was something Rebecca Knapp discussed in her Legals and Copyright session at ScriptFest last month, which was the importance of addressing the legal side of things when friends are working on a project together. This would be helpful to support students to understand the realities of working collaboratively in industry.

  • UK Skills Explorer

As part of the released of the UK Standard Skills Classification (SSC), Skills England have also released the Beta version of UK Skills Explorer, a tool to support individuals, careers advisors, and employers with making decisions about career paths based on qualifications and skills.

  • How do Deaf British Sign Language users experience suspense in film?

This research developed by Paper, explores how Deaf British Sign Language users experience suspense in film by engaging with participants to understand what generates suspense in film and makes recommendations in order to support these audiences with the best possible viewing experiences in the future.
