Camera Workshop

A practical, hands-on workshop for film & media teachers, led by a video and film professional and instructor. Whether you're working with industry-standard kit or helping students make the most of limited resources, this session will give you the technical knowledge and confidence to teach camera operating effectively in your classroom.

The workshop will cover: 

  • Key principles of camera operating, including exposure, lenses, and the camera as a creative tool

  • Introduction to and hands-on practice using a range of equipment, including the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema and RED Dragon-X cameras, as well as DSLRs and mobile filmmaking equipment

  • Tips for supporting students working with a range of equipment/budgets

Tutor: The workshop will be led by Frank Lopez is a seasoned Technical Manager and Film-Making Technician with over 14 years of experience in the entertainment production and equipment rental industries. Currently based in London, Frank supports creative and educational initiatives at London Metropolitain University, where he designs and delivers technical workshops for emerging filmmakers. His career spans high-profile roles in New York and the UK, including managing multi-million dollar equipment portfolios and supporting productions such as The New York Times Presents (Hulu), Gutsy (Apple TV), and Ride With Norman Reedus (AMC). Frank brings a hands-on, collaborative approach to technical education, empowering teachers and students alike to explore the creative potential of professional camera systems.
