This fully-funded event is aimed at secondary teachers of media and drama in Scotland, and will be particularly suited to those delivering the new Screen Scotland Film & Screen Curriculum.
The workshop will combined theory and practice to give you a rounded introduction to cinematography. The first half will introduce key principles of cinematography, including essentials of framing, composition, exposure and white balance. In the second half you will have an opportunity for hands-on practice in a small group setting, including a filming exercise and practical advice for low-to-no-budget filming. You will have the opportunity to work with a range of equipment, including iPads, smartphones with rigged kits and DSLR cameras, to ensure learnings can be adapted to suit any school budget or resources.
The workshop will take place at Dungeon Frog Studios in Cumbernauld (see below), and will be led by Dungeon Frog Studios Director Alex Blackmore and Co-Founder Sarah Yule, who bring together 15 years of experience in the UK film industry.

Alex has a career spanning over 15 years in the film & TV industry, providing technical support to productions ranging from Marvel movies and James Bond to Still Game and Silent Witness. With a primary background in specialist lighting & control, Alex has previously taught and provided workshops at the MET Film School in London, as well as provided location based specialist training, and technical support for film & TV crews across the UK.
Sarah has similarly worked for over a decade within the industry, both in the production side, as a sound specialist, and in the educational sector helping train the next generation of filmmakers. As an experienced hand at producing production risk assessments and facilitating production planning, she has helped countless student and low budget shoots film safely and efficiently.
Alex & Sarah now also run Dungeon Frog Studios, a small independent studio aimed at providing affordable studio space to independent filmmakers and artists, alongside community youth workshops, while still providing support services for larger productions.
