Directing Actors Workshop

Discover the craft of directing actors for the screen with this practical, hands-on workshop for film & media teachers led by Actor, Writer and Educator Christabel Clark (BBC Voices 2026). Whether you want to raise the level of your students’ projects or expand your knowledge of professional practice, this session will give you the confidence to better guide aspiring directors as well as foster positive and appropriate on-set communication for all crew members.

Through a range of hands-on activities, the workshop will cover:

  • the actor’s place on set

  • how to give actor-friendly notes: good vs. bad direction

  • how to build a shared emotional language.

During the day, participants will have the opportunity to practice directing two professional actors in a positive and encouraging space.

Running again in London this academic year due to popular demand, places for this workshop are fully-funded but limited. The event is reserved for teachers of film, media, drama and other expressive arts looking to enhance their practical skills and bring professional directing techniques into their teaching.

The workshop will take place at Cromer Studios (Holy Cross Church, Cromer St, London WC1H 8JU). f you require support with travel costs for this event, have a look at our travel bursaries.
