Would you like to make your student films look more cinematic?

Join us for this hands-on, fully-funded workshop for film and media teachers. Led by a professional cinematographer and storyboard artist, this session will give you actionable workarounds and practical teaching tools to improve the visual standard of your students’ coursework without breaking your department's budget.

The workshop will cover:

• core principles of cinematography on no-to-low-budget, including using household items to improve lighting, and getting the most of the filming equipment available at your school. This will include reviewing student films and hands-on practice.

• storyboarding: how to improve students with storyboarding, including shorthand ways of storyboarding, composing panels with clarity, and shotlisting for storyboarding

• Careers guidance: how to support students with portfolio careers

Trainer: The workshop will be run by TV & Film Storyboard Artist and Cinematography lecturer Ed Swales. Ed has over 10 years of industry experience as a cinematographer, gaffer and camera assistant. In that time he has also worked as a storyboard artist across multiple productions including Casualty (BBC) and the Oscar-shortlisted The One Note Man (Disney+). He currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer at BIMM University, where he gained his PG Cert in Teaching & Learning.

Cost: Places for this workshop are fully-funded but limited. The event is reserved for teachers of film, media and other expressive arts looking to push their students’ productions to the next level.
